“It isn't a judgment regarding the merit of the new commemoration, simply that changing the Memorial in by doing this, as suggested in HR 2070, will always dilute this elegant memorial’s central message and how it can clearly convey that message to maneuver, educate, and encourage its many site visitors,” Abbey stated in written testimony.
Abbey described to congress that changing the memorial could be unlike the Commemorative Works Act — legislation that forbids “encroachment with a new commemoration on the existing one.” Additionally, it respects the style of the “completed work of social art without alteration or inclusion of new elements.”
Manley told Fox News the administration’s objection should “give all People in america a lot of concern.”
“For there to become objections to showing a belief in God at critical points within our nation’s history – particularly D-Day – boggles my thoughts,” Manley stated. “I was very surprised they would object.”
Tony Perkins, leader from the Family Research Council stated it’s not every that surprising.
“This is further evidence the administration has produced an atmosphere that's hostile towards American history – but particularly towards Christianity,” Perkins told Fox News. “I hope America awakens and realizes what this administration does for this country and just how they would like to significantly and essentially change America.”
“They wish to erase every facet of America’s heritage,” Perkins stated of Obama’s administration. “any leader, any official ever which has accepted Christianity, is no more welcome within this administration. That’s the atmosphere they're creating.”
